SALISBURY, N.C. (April 27, 2021) – Food Lion, a grocery retailer serving towns and cities across 10 states, today announced a four-store collaboration with Flashfood, a digital marketplace providing customers access to heavily discounted food nearing its best-by date. The pilot program expands Flashfood’s partnership with Food Lion parent company Ahold Delhaize USA, adding a fourth banner store to its regional store brands and presence.
Food Lion is the latest retailer to launch their partnership with Flashfood to help customers save money on groceries and reduce food waste. Food Lion joins other grocery chains to partner with Flashfood including three Ahold Delhaize brands including The GIANT Company, Giant, and Stop & Shop among others such as Meijer, Price Rite Marketplace, Tops Friendly Markets, Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets and more.
Using the Flashfood app, shoppers can save up to 50% on items across the store such as meat, produce, dairy and bakery items, as well as center-store foods and snacks nearing their best-by dates. Shoppers purchase items directly in the app, reducing the need for in-store shopping, and then simply pick up their order from the Flashfood zone located in their participating Food Lion store.
“Flashfood has been an innovative partner of our parent company, Ahold Delhaize USA, supporting sustainability efforts and making a significant impact in the battle against food waste at the retail level at hundreds of other locations,” said Meg Ham, President of Food Lion. “We’re looking forward to testing Flashfood in this pilot program to help us reduce food waste and help shoppers in these neighborhoods access discounts on items store-wide.”
The latest expansion will make Flashfood available at the following Food Lion locations:
“In Delaware alone, Feeding America estimated that in 2021, there would be more than 114,000 food-insecure Delawareans,” said Josh Domingues, Founder and CEO, Flashfood. “Today, shoppers are facing higher grocery prices across the board. We are excited to partner with Food Lion to create access to more affordable grocery options for Delawareans and in turn, reduce food waste and help to achieve Food Lion’s strong sustainability commitments.”
All participating Flashfood store locations can be found via the store locator. To learn more about Flashfood, visit Flashfood.com.
